Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller



My candidacy for Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller derives from my unending commitment to provide excellent and accountable public service to the citizens of Hernando County. Rest assured, I intend to utilize my proven leadership skills of years as a government administrator and decades of experience to continue my lifetime of service to our community as your Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.

As your Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller my primary mission will be to provide excellent customer service to all while accurately maintaining our county’s official records and vigorously safeguarding our county’s finances.

Starting with my undergraduate education in Economics, and my first job out of college as a tax examiner for the IRS, over the years I have acquired the skills necessary to be a strong financial manager (Comptroller). Moreover, as a hearing representative handling complex cases worth hundreds-of-thousands to millions-of dollars, I am able to fully comprehend sophisticated competing claims while readily identifying fraud, misrepresentation, and waste. In completing FDLE’s Chief Executive Seminar in strategic government management, and as a government office administrator for nearly 9 years, I am trained to understand government budgeting, spending constraints, and fiscal accountability. As your Comptroller, I will utilize all these experiences and skills to safeguard our county’s financial resources through vigorous auditing such that our county government is held fully accountable while certifying expenditures which are responsive only to the needs of our community. 

I have been involved in the courthouse community for nearly 30 years and I have handled thousands of court cases. As an attorney in Florida I have worked closely with deputy clerks whom are responsible for the official record and evidence. It is only from constantly practicing law in the courtroom can one fully understand the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s legal obligation to assist the orderly administration of justice. As your Clerk of the Circuit Court, I will follow my Constitutional responsibilities and the Rule of Law to fulfill this obligation with excellence.

Moreover, over these last 20 plus years as a practicing attorney here in Florida, I have had daily direct working relationships with are our judges in the Fifth Circuit, the State Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, the Department of Children and Families, and our various law enforcement and probation agencies. In addition, I have worked closely with private attorneys and the public. Consequently, I fully recognize their needs as both participants in the legal system, and as customers of, the Clerk’s office. As your Clerk, I will be receptive to the needs of all in our community by listening and observing, and then by implementing the changes necessary to provide responsive and excellent customer service.

I am fully aware that our citizens, our legal system, and our government, depend on the Clerk’s office to accurately maintain our county’s official records. As an attorney, and a government administrator, I too am responsible for keeping lasting, accurate official records for my clients and employer. As your Clerk, I will never compromise the accuracy and integrity of our official records and intend to implement state-of-the-art systems to keep our official records readily accessible, and safe, for years to come.

I will utilize my years of experience as a government administrator- previously handling the daily operations of two state government offices- to efficiently and responsibly manage our Clerk’s office. I will strategically align the organization to meet the demands of an ever-changing world. I will budget responsibly and maintain a well-organized organization without waste and excess. I will hire the best qualified and treat all our employees fairly and with respect while continuously providing the essential training necessary to perform excellent work. I will keep an orderly and pleasant environment in all our offices and provide hours to accommodate all our customers.

Lastly, I will show up for work every day to meet my Constitutional responsibilities as your Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.
